Newcastle band AFTER MIDNIGHT performed their first gig in December 1985. There have been many highlights over the years, including support slots with Doctor Feelgood and Steve Marriott.
For the past 9 years, the band have concentrated on their Eric Clapton tribute concerts, performed at theatres all over the UK, under the name CLASSIC CLAPTON. This year the band has toured Ireland (twice) and also performed in Holland and Mumbai!
The band has released three albums. Firstly “THE MUSIC OF ERIC CLAPTON” contains brilliant cover-versions of 17 Clapton Classics. Their second album is a live double CD ''CLASSIC CLAPTON Unplugged'' recorded at Belfast Waterfront Hall. In 2005 they released their third album “CLASSIC CREAM” – featuring 20 songs by the sixties supergroup. All three albums are available for purchase at their gigs.
TYNE TEES TELEVISION made a programme about After Midnight, called 'COVER THEIR TRACKS'. They filmed the band's concert at Newcastle Opera House, in front of nearly 600 ecstatic fans. It was shown in August 2000 leading to national recognition.
The success of the tribute gigs has meant that local pub gigs have become few and far between. However, After Midnight will be playing one (and only one) pub gig on Friday 18 December. The venue will be upstairs at The Magnesia Bank (upstairs), Camden Street, North Shields. Tickets are £7.50, available in advance from the pub (Tel: 0191 257 4831). Visit the venue’s Website.
This will NOT be an Eric Clapton Tribute Gig, although one or two of Slowhand's songs will be covered, along with music by Free, Dire Straits, The Beatles and Steely Dan.
For this one-off gig, front-man and founder member Mike Hall will be joined by John Forster (bass guitar/backing vocals) and Vince Mason (drums/backing vocals).
After Midnight will continue to perform their CLASSIC CLAPTON concerts around the UK, next year. They have bookings as far ahead as November 2010.
Their next Eric Clapton Tribute concert will be at Berwick Maltings Theatre on 13 March 2010. They currently have no other local gigs planned until Autumn 2010.
Thanks to the hundreds of people who came to the sold out show at Durham Gala Theatre recently.
