Acoustic Sunday at Borders Bookstore
Sunday 15th JuneThis week we saw only two acts as Shoebox had to pull out last minute, this didn't pose a problem though, we have booked Shoebox to appear next Sunday instead and the quality of the two remaining acts today more than made up for quantity!Joe Burge
To start our second Acoustic Sunday off we had Joe Burge. Joe is a young man from Billingham who plays lead guitar in local band Nil by Mouth - another act appearing soon at Borders! When he is not playing with Nil By Mouth, Joe composes his own songs and today saw his first performance in public of his own material. We felt privileged to see this talented song writer perform for us today as artists of this calibre do not come along very often. Joe positively awed the on lookers at Borders with his set made up of contemporary modern ballads all penned by himself. To say he performed with feeling is an understatement and we are looking forward to seeing Joe again next week when he will be returning to Borders to take part in another Acoustic Sunday. You can also see Joe perform again by going along to the Teesside Open Mic sessions held at the Sportsman Bar in Eaglescliffe every Monday night.

Rough Justice

Our second act of the day was Rough Justice. More commonly seen performing Classic Rock Songs in a range of bars around the local area, today was a rare treat to see this accomplished group of musicians perform their first acoustic set.
Tom Jackson, the lead singer of Rough Justice, performed to perfection to an increasingly busier audience. Tom hails from Redcar and has proved over and over with his performances with the band that he is one of the most sought after vocalists around at the moment, today showed us he is more than capable of tackling other genres of music and doing so professionally and with a style that is second to none.
Jono Hinley, lead guitarist of Rough Justice was completely caught up in the songs performed today and proved himself to be one of the finest guitarists locally at the moment. The sheer quality of musicianship this young man demonstrates in his playing is second to none. Finally we have Frank Todd who appeared last week with This City Romance. Frank once again amazed us with his skill at playing the bass guitar and completed the trio perfectly adding a special depth to the overall quality of the performance.
Rough Justice performed an extended set to Borders shoppers and played classics such as Pink Floyds Wish You Were Here and Led Zeppelins What is and What Should Never Be. This was a completely different slant on how we usually hear those types of songs performed and the guys put on a truly spellbinding performance. You can find out more about Rough Justice by visiting their website here. We will be continuing our Acoustic Sundays over the next few weeks in Borders. We have a range of some of the top local entertainers lined up to appear and will be reporting on NEL after each event.
Next week we have a range of local talent appearing instore including The Bass Players Daughter and Simon Brown.
Come along and support these local entertainers, browse through the vast range of books on offer in Borders and have a great day out!
