Acoustic Sunday at Borders Bookstore

Sunday 29th June

We were really looking forward to this weeks Acoustic Sunday at Borders. Not only because of the tremendous response we have had so far but also because we had four exciting acts lined up for todays listening pleasure.

Carl Eaton

Carl Eaton

Our first act today was Carl Eaton, a singer / songwriter from Middlesbrough. Carl's act was a wonderful way to start offCarl Eaton the day as he is possibly one of the best local songwriters and performers around the scene at present. His own material is clearly written from the heart and not only are the lyrics outstanding, the music is also superb.
Carl played a half hour set to an increasingly busier Borders and even managed to get some of the little ones up dancing to his songs!
What sets Carl apart from the rest is theCarl Eaton depth of feeling in his performance. He sings each word with emotion and as a part of his audience you cannot fail to become caught up with his act. We would highly recommend keeping an eye out for this artist. Carl regularly plays Acoustic events in the Teesside area and also further afield. Definately a performance that stands out amongst the many wonderful acts we have had on at Borders over the past few weeks. Carl has a MySpace Page where you can find out where he is playing next.

Electric Nightmares

Electric Nightmares

Up next we had Electric Nightmares. As the name may suggest this band is usually seen playing a much louder set of songs! We were extremely interested in seeing what they would put over in a more understated setting.Electric Nightmares
The remarkable thing about Electric Nightmares is the age of the band. Ranging from 13 to 16 they are an act that never fails to amaze you with their quality of performance. Its not often a band of that kind of age can adapt from the usual loud mainstream sound that young bands are noted for performing,Electric Nightmares to play in an acoustic setting such as we have in Borders. The songs they play are mainly their own material although they threw in a couple of covers which pleased the crowd which had gathered to watch them play.
We were looking forward to see how Electric Nightmares would adapt to an acoustic set and we were not disappointed. They pulled it off beautifully and rearranged their tunes to suit the setting. You can find out more about Electric Nightmares by visiting their MySpace Page .

Nil by Mouth

Nil by Mouth

Our third act this week was Nil by Mouth, a young band from Billingham fronted by one of our regulars at Borders, Joe Burge.Nil by Mouth Nil by Mouth describe themselves as a Rock / Indie / Techno band with influences from anything and everything. These guys are more generally known for a much louder performance but again we were pleasantly surprised by the way they had altered Nil by Mouththeir act to accomodate the setting. What must be mentioned here is that the drummer in Nil by Mouth actually played Bass Guitar today so he could join in - and a fine job he made of it too! The guys played a selection of their own material together with a couple of Joes own songs and were an excellent act all told. To find out more about Nil by Mouth and where you can catch their more robust set check out their MySpace Page.

Gin Soaked Boy

Gin Soaked Boy

Finally today we had Gin Soaked Boy. This is a four piece band from Barnard Castle who we had the pleasure of seeing a few weeks ago in our Battle of the Bands at Doctor Browns. For the first time in our Acoustic Sunday Sets we had a band who dared to bring in a drum kit and use brushes instead of sticks to enhance the bands performance.Gin Soaked Boy Gin Soaked Boy are an incredible act to watch, their normal set consists of Rock and Indie tunes with much more up beat sound, however, today we certainly saw a gentler side to the guys. They played a set of their own material cleverly adapted to suit the acoustic setting perfectly. An outstanding performance, we saw customers from all over the store coming across to our stage area just to watch Gin Soaked Boy play.Gin Soaked Boy They finished the set with a beautifully executed rendition of Johnny Cash's "Hurt" and were treated to a rousing and well deserved applause. You can find out more about The band at their MySpace Page and if you would like to see them play live they are appearing at The Yorkshire Lass on the 1st August at the Rock the Lass Eve party - in aid of The North Air Ambulance.

Another brilliant Acoustic Sunday at Borders with another display of fantastic local unsigned talent.
