Young guns Anonymous Farewell once again took headline stage at The Princess Alice last night. We've had the pleasure of seeing these guys n girl several times now, and with every performance they just get better & better. Last nights performance was confident, tight and slick. Lead vocalist Kirstie Groom, in particular, has blossomed from being shy & timid, to a self assured front woman, who now has a natural rapport with the audience.
Their music is quite reminiscent of American Grunge-Goth Metal bands such as Evanescence, but with perhaps more of the Symphonic Metal element particularly with the haunting ethereal lead guitar from Joe Walker. Crunchy, jolting rhythms from Bass & guitar (Robert Hodgson & Jack Fletcher respectively), and solid drumming by Andrew Craggs complete & compliment the ensemble. There are also possible influences from the likes of Paradise Lost and maybe even Dead Can Dance.
As with almost every Band, the focus invariably falls to the Singer, and with Kirsty at the helm, not only do Anonymous Farewell have an excellent and capable vocalist, but that rarest of things; a beautiful young girl who can hold and captivate an audience and perform with aplomb.
There is absolutely no question that Anonymous Farewell are one of the most promising young bands to come out of Teesside for quite some time and we are looking forward to hearing big things about them going forward. These guys really need to get onto a big stage to realise their full potential and with festivals coming up next year at both Middlesbrough Music Live and SIRF it will be an injustice if we don't get to see this band up there representing Teesside.
Check out their MySpace page and try to get along and see these guys play!
