Lakes on Fire - EP
Lakes On Fire are James Riggall & Emma Reeve; a Guitar & Drum duo often unfairly compared to The White Stripes simply because of their set up.
There the similarity ends. James sings & plays with sincerity & intensity; the songs on this 2 Track EP are very Indie in the truest sense of the word. There's no commercialization going on here; they certainly do their own thing, and while it's not everyone's cup of Earl Grey, there's a definite belief in what they are doing, and that will take them a long way.
The first track "Line Up" begins with a slow bells-like pattern, lulling you momentarily into thinking this is going to be a nice gentle tune. But then distorted guitar & Drums break in, before a lull to what may well be a chorus. Very interesting indeed. We know what to expect with the second track "Optic Glass", or so we think, as the backing vocals by Emma are a very welcome addition to the dynamic.
I honestly think they can amass a very good fan base with more exposure.
Personally I'd like to see them add a bit of Bass; even if just for effect or punctuation, I think it would open up their creative pallet to a wider audience and would finally end the unfavorable comparisons to Mr. & Mrs. White.

MySpace.
