Rock the Lass 2009
The Yorkshire Lass, New Marske
Rock the Lass is a long running festival held at The Yorkshire Lass every August. This year things had to be scaled down quite a bit due to unforeseen circumstances but Rock the Lass still went ahead! Tracy Windras one of the organisers of the event pulled together a superb family fun day to replace the usual outdoor music festival and asked us to help out with the sound for the bands who played inside this year.
We were delighted to help out and went along on the 8th August to do our bit for the Great North Air Ambulance. The line up had been pulled together on short notice but nonetheless was still a fantastic set of musicians! Opening the show we had Meanwood who are a local rock covers band. They kicked things off at around 1pm and played a half hour set to a rapidly filling up bar. Fortunately the PA system did allow the music to carry outside so even those who had come along to enjoy the events going on outdoors were treated to the music. Following Meanwood, Christian and Georgia treat the bar to some classic cover songs including a fantastic rendition of Vincent - its been a long, long time since I have heard that played live!
Following Christian & Georgia Backtrac played to a now full house. Tracy herself is the front woman to Backtrac and what a performance she put on!
The Fires of Caladan who were one of the runner ups in the Yorkshire Lass Battle of the Bands played next followed by Midlife Misfits another local covers band. The Persuaders took to the stage next giving everyone at the Yorkshire Lass a nostalgic journey back in time! Complete with wigs!
Winnners of the Battle of the Bands 21 Reasons were due to get up next however we decided as it was such a nice day to take it out into the carpark. 21 Reasons played out the daytime entertainment to the packed field behind the pub and ended the day in style.
The evening continued with the usual covers band playing and the total amount raised was £1041.00! Rock the Lass will be back next year and will be even bigger and better stay tuned for news of this soon!
