March of the Dogs - Dark Days

March of the Dogs EP

March of the Dogs are a 4 piece from Darlington/Stockton who serve up a feast of heavy head-banging fusion. The title track "Dark Days" is a gourmet of genuflection with nods to acts as diverse as Nirvana, Jethro Tull & Bauhaus. It's a real 3-courser and a great track. Metal heads will love it.

Track 2 "Ignorance Isn't Bliss" is an excellent track reminding us all of those early classic rock halcyon days; shades of the Led Zeppelin & Black Sabbath abound & that's no bad thing at all. "Superficial" the third track on the EP is a dramatic move to the Punk genre; a great tune that really moves along and puts me in mind of The Clash while the final track "The Unknown Road" stays in the Punk vein but encompasses some of the more outré elements of the New Wave; almost a cross between The Buzzcocks, John Foxx era Ultravox & early Gene Loves Jezebel, wrapped up in tortilla of early Manic Street Preachers - a real oddity, but an absolute gem; those 80's revivalists will love it.

It's a real mixed bag of monsters, and that's no detriment to the band whatsoever. The CD amply highlights the broad compass of musical styles & influences the band draw upon. It's a great listen, especially for those metal punks. Get it downloaded now.
