A Tribute to Led Zeppelin
We were invited along to see the launch - pardon the pun - of Mothership, Teessides latest brand spanking new Led Zeppelin Tribute band.
The opening night for these four young men from Teesside took place at Guisbrough Football Club on July 26th. Over the years we have seen many tribute bands come and go but we were especially keen to go and watch this particular band for several reasons.
The band itself may be better known in the area as Rough Justice - one of the more popular classic rock covers bands in the area. We have been following these guys for a couple of years now from when they first started out. During that time they have blossomed from a group of young inexperienced lads to a top quality, highly entertaining band well worth going to see if you like your classic rock. In particular they have been noted for their covers of Led Zeppelin tracks so we were not really suprised when it was announced that they would be expanding into a tribute band.
It has to be said that the turnout for the launch was poor, however that did not deter the lads from putting on a fantastic performance. The costumes and light effects were brilliant and the lads really put their all into the set.
The act began with Daniel Higgins in the role of John Bonham leading Jono Hinley (Jimmy Page) and Frank Todd (John Paul Jones)onto the stage amid an effective smoke and light show. Once into their positions Tom Jackson (Robert Plant) took his place in centre stage and the show kicked off. The guys gave an excellent performance playing many of the all time Led Zeppelin classics. 
From Since I've been Loving You to The Ocean, Rock n Roll to What is and What Should Never Be, they did them all! And they did them convincingly and with true Led Zeppelin showmanship! It must be mentioned that these guys as a group are outstanding to watch - four top quality musicians who seem to know exactly what each other are doing, they are not afraid to tackle some of the more challenging tracks and pulling them off without any problem whatsoever. 
The highlight of the evening was a superb performance of the classic Dazed and Confused which saw the guys really fall into their element - Jono complete with a violin bow! This particular song would make many a more seasoned professional quake at the thought of playing it but Mothership took it on and played it to perfection.

Higgy as John Bonham proved again that he is a seriously accomplished stickman. Jono and Frank (Page and Jones) together are dynamite, outstanding guitar and bass complementing each other perfectly. All in all last Saturday was a fantastic evening. Certainly one I would not have wanted to miss. If you get chance to catch this superb act we would strongly recommend that you do so. Not only can we gaurantee you will be entertained but if you like Led Zeppelin then these lads are more than worth the trip out to see.
