Teesside Open Mic Club
Teesside Open Mic club was one of the first open mics aimed at solo acoustic performers in the area of late. The format was different in that Frank, the organiser arranged for up to 6 performers to come along to the Sportsman and play a designated spot each time. Other performers were discouraged to just turn up to play which was possibly a stumbling block for the night. However the few occasions we went along to the Open Mic nights we were pleasantly suprised by the standard of musicians playing there, the only thing lacking was an audience. This was a great opportunity for new singers and songwriters to show everyone what they can do and get support and encouragement from more established performers.
It was free to perform and free to listen – however due to lack of support this was yet another acoustic night that had to end which was a shame as it had all the potential to be a fantastic platform for all concerned.
