The Persuaders
A Nostalgic Musical Journey in The Teal Arms!

The first of what looks to be a promising regular event kicked off on Friday night at The Teal. The Persuaders are a four piece sixties style band. The current line up consists of Derek Telfer (Also known as Sparticus or just handsome for short!) - Bass and lead vocalist. Derek has been playing for 36 years and formed The Persuaders in April 2000.
Paul Fallen - Rhythm Guitar and Vocals. Paul was the co-founder of the Beatlemaniacs who were very successful in the UK and played at the legendary Cavern Club.
Steve Dowson - Lead Guitar and Backing Vocals. Steve has only been with the Persuaders for 2 gigs although you would not have known that unless you had been told!
Paul Tilly - Drummer. Paul teaches drums 6 days a week and in his own words "Don't believe a word I say cause everything I say is a lie!"
The band hail from the Redcar and Guisbrough areas and enjoy a full schedule of gigs across the North East. For more information please visit their website.
The performance put on by the Persuaders was enhanced by impressive lighting effects and the sixties theme went down really well with the crowd in the Teal. The numbers they played appealed to the cross section of ages present and they performed together well. They kicked off with Hippy Hippy Shake and Baby Come Back and continued the first set with many known tunes such as Don't Throw your Love away and You've Really Got Me. At about half time the band trooped off stage and we were treated to a fantastic drum solo by Paul Tilley, we were then let in on the Rock n Roll lifestyle Derek leads, he announced that he spends his Wednesday nights with a bar of chocolate and a bottle of brown ale whilst he watches Heartbeat! They then played the theme track from Heartbeat and went straight into Yesterday. When you looked around the pub everybody was singing along with them.
The second set was as good as the first, songs such as Have I the Right, Spirit in The Sky and Twist and Shout got the Teal bouncing, people were up dancing! I haven't seen that since the first New Years Eve the Teal opened its doors!
All in all it was a fantastic night and a good time was had by all. Hats off to Jamie at the Teal for putting the event on, its about time that Ingleby had a taste of the fantastic local music scene. We would recommend you attend any Live Music Night put on at the Teal, good music, a great atmosphere and free entry! What more could you ask for from your Local!
