Wednesday Showcase
16th July 2009Tonight marked the first of our Wednesday Showcases at Doctor Browns.
Nil by Mouth
Having seen Nil by Mouth perform acoustically at one of our Borders events we were delighted when they agreed to come along and play for us in our very first showcase event at Doc Browns. Their set ranges from some original songs to some much loved covers. Nil by Mouth entertained Doctor Browns with tracks such as Where is My Mind by the Pixies and Ever Fallen in Love by the Buzzcocks. These guys genuinly enjoy what they do and that shines through in their performance.
The band are based in Billingham although they do travel further afield to play in places such as Bishop Auckland where Joe - the lead singer is originally from. Regulars at Trader Jacks in Billingham, they have a definate following as was proved by the support they brought along with them tonight.
Another fine young band from Teesside and ones that could go on to bigger and better things in the future. Their original material is catchy and well written and altogether the guys put on an enjoyable set for us tonight.
This City Romance

Headlining tonight we had This City Romance - a local band who have been making waves in the Teesside music scene over the last few months. This five piece played a range of original songs to an appreciative Doctor Browns. They currently have a demo CD available with five of their tracks and will be recording more in August of this year to create an EP. Strong vocals and powerful lyrics complimented by outstanding musicians in the back four showed everyone present tonight that this band have all the right ingredients to be a success.
Sadly this proved to be the penultimate gig with the original line up as Frank - the Bassist has moved on to pursue other projects. This City Romance will continue though and a replacement bassist is set to be announced soon .
Tonight set us in great stead for the coming weeks with our Wednesday Showcases, we aim to bring the finest local talent into the spotlight continuing next week with The Steve Marron Project, 4 Mile Drive and Gin Soaked Boy.
