Showcase at Doctor Browns

Wednesday 23rd July

The Steve Marron Project

The Steve Marron Project

To start of tonights entertainment we had The Steve Marron Project an acoustic duo from Middlesbrough. Steve and Andy played their set of original songs to a very full Doctor Browns and gave us a most enjoyable performance. Profound and dark is one way of describing the lyrics to their self penned songs, however they are far from the category of dull which a lot of acoustic bands fall into. The Steve Marron Project is a pleasure to witness perform, they manage to tackle issues which effect every one of us daily with a level of sophistication which is beyond their years. The Steve Marron Project The set put on by the guys was a great way to kick off the night and we will be looking to bring in more acoustic acts over the course of the next few weeks. The Steve Marron Project are also a part of another local band - Gods Own Prototype which will be appearing at The Alice Unsigned on August 15th. You can find out more about the SMP on their MySpace page.

4 Mile Drive

4 Mile Drive

4 Mile DriveOur second act tonight were 4 Mile Drive. We had been handed a rough demo from Phil the lead guitarist from the band and were impressed by what we heard. We thought we would give them a spot on the 2nd Wednesday Showcase at Doc Browns to see if they were as good live as the demo promised. We were not disappointed. 4 Mile Drive have a lot of potential to be one of the best Punk / Rock bands to emerge for quite some time. Fronted by Vic, who is absolutely bursting with energy this band absoluted wowed us with their performance tonight. We were suprised to discover that tonights performance was only their second gig! No way would you have known this. They played brilliantly and confirmed our first 4 Mile Drivethoughts that these guys could go far.

We have already rebooked them to come down and play at The Alice Unsigned this coming Friday and we have no doubts that we will be having them back again in the future at both venues. 4 Mile Drive are everything a punk / rock band should be, original songs that are punchy and hard hitting with well written lyrics coupled with the bands dynamic persona. If you get chance do make a point of going to see them, they will be ones we will be hearing more from in the future.

Gin Soaked Boy

Gin Soaked Boy

Headlining tonight we had Gin Soaked Boy - a four piece Indie / Rock band from Barnard Castle. Gin Soaked Boy particularly impressed us when they played in our recent Battle of the Bands and we were delighted to have them back at Doctor Browns again tonight. These guys are outstanding and the few occasions we have seen them live they have never failed to impress.Gin Soaked Boy They play a range of original tunes which are of the highest standard and makes you wonder what they are doing playing in Middlesbrough! This band certainly has the quality and originality to go all the way in the music business. Maturity and experience are reflected in their songs which have meanings on many levels. Lyrically they are clearly drawn to life experience and musically they are well structured and polished. Their set tonight, as always was superb, Gin Soaked Boy have a way of drawing you into their performance - you can't fail to get caught up with them, they had Doctor Browns absolutely rocking!

Gin Soaked Boy Keep an eye out for this band, they are appearing at more and more venues in Teesside as their reputation grows. On Friday 1st August they will be appearing at The Yorkshire Lass in New Marske for the Rock The Lass Eve Party. This event is aimed at kicking off the Rock The Lass Festival on Saturday 2nd August and all the proceeds from Rock the Lass go towards the North Air Ambulance.

Next week at Doc Browns we have the launch of Femme Fatales new single - The Woah Song. Not one to be missed! Entry to the Showcase is free so why not pop along to Doc Browns and support this event.
