Vin Garbutt plays charity gig

Vin Garbutt Middlesbrough troubadour Vin Garbutt is set to play a rare intimate gig at The Georgian Theatre, Stockton in aid of two very special local charities.

The event is being organized by Teesside musician Phil Muriel, who was inspired by his experience as an interpreter whilst working with the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture.

Mr. Muriel has come into contact with vast numbers of sanctuary seekers tortured in their home countries whilst translating during counseling sessions with psychotherapists from the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture. The Medical Foundation's weekly clinics are held in the Stockton premises of Justice First, a charity dedicated to helping destitute asylum seekers.

Phil, of Redcar, wanted to find a way to support the dedicated staff and volunteers who work for both charities, which led him to seek the help of local folk singer songwriter Vin Garbutt. Vin, who is famous for his political themed lyrics, has recently written a song about the plight of refugees and was only too glad to help. Tees Music Alliance director, Paul Burns was also more than happy to help with the event, offering The Georgian Theatre as the perfect setting.

The evening will commence with African music and dance from The Volunteer Drummers and will feature a song especially written by Phil to highlight the plight of those who have left their home and loved ones to flee persecution and the threat of death and torture.

Vin Garbutt and The Volunteer African Drummers perform at The Georgian Theatre on Thursday 19 August, doors open at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced £10 and can be booked online at The Georgian Theatre or by sending an email here.
